If you ask Diane Agostinello, Director of Marketing and Leasing Services for Kimco Realty, what her organization knew about blogging and social media 18 months ago, she’d tell you they knew virtually nothing, except that some competitors were nibbling around the edges of it.
More important though, Diane and her team recognized they needed to learn about these communications channels and determine whether Kimco, an $8 billion REIT, would gain value from incorporating blogging and other social media strategies into its investor relations and overall communications programs.
Today, Kimco has a vibrant blog — intently followed by its investors and tenants — as well as 11 Facebook pages, two Twitter handles, and a YouTube page. Blogging and social media play an important role in Kimco’s IR initiatives, and also help the company’s tenants improve their retail traffic and customer experience.

The International Council of Shopping Centers (ICSC), the #1 trade organization for Kimco’s industry, gave Kimco’s blog a 2012 U.S. MAXI Award in the “New Media-Best Use of Social Media” category. The ICSC also asked Diane to speak at this year’s MOCIAL conference about how to build a successful corporate blog. Most recently, Ragan’s PR Daily named Kimco’s blog a finalist for the publication’s Digital PR and Social Media Awards in the “Best Use of SEO” category.
